Do you know what food additives you eat every day and what side effects it has on your body RIGHT NOW?
A shocking list of health and lifestyle problems can all be caused by harmful additives you put into your body when you eat, without you even knowing it. Allergies. Diabetes. Eczema. Hypertension. Hypotension. Asthma. Being overweight or underweight. Lack of sleep, concentration or energy.
Equally, your body can suffer shortages of crucial amino acids, vitamins, etc. that make you tired, depressed, less alert and prone to pain.
Few people have any idea how much healthier they’d be and how much better they could feel by making a few easy changes in their diet. We didn’t either!
Most of us are, in effect, poisoning ourselves with what our body doesn’t need and starving it of what it does need… Simply because nobody tells us and we don’t know better.
That’s why we wrote Mind What You Eat. So that you won’t have to keep struggling with all kinds of health problems that are so easy to avoid. Order your copy now!
For years, we were like most people, just going about our daily lives – studying, working, looking after the family – too busy to worry much about food.
The two of us, Ilya Fedorov and Yana Shumilova, both got masters degrees in science. We migrated from Russia to New Zealand and worked to establish ourselves in our new country. We had our daughter to look after. As long as there was food to eat and it tasted good, we didn’t mind...
Unless you’re a nutritionist by profession, what goes into food isn’t something most of us think about. The people who make and market food know this. Why should they bother to tell us what we don’t ask?
Like you, we didn’t know what all these things are for and what they might do for us or to us.
But then something happened that made us relook what we had been doing to ourselves and, more importantly, to those in our care.
Our daughter Natasha was still only two years old at the time. Out of the blue, she developed bad eczema. The back of her neck and her shoulders were covered in red, itchy, bleeding scabs. She was irritable, crying and struggling a lot. Any parent of a toddler will tell you that you don’t need the extra aggravation!
At about the same time, a close relative had a cancer scare and other family members had issues with diabetes and spinal decay. When we started to read up about these health issues, we found a common thread in all of them – NUTRITION. We realised we know little about what we eat and what our bodies need.
It’s obvious that the food we put into our bodies has a profound effect on how well it functions. Nutrition should really be the first cause we investigate when things go wrong, before we rush off to get drugs to combat or add to existing effects we experience.
It’s amazing that everyone knows what to put into a car to make it work well. You seldom forget to put in oil and water and nobody would put dishwater in the petrol tank. But when it comes to our own bodies, we’re not half as informed…
As you probably experienced yourself, there’s a lot of information about nutrition – but not much of it is very useful.
Many sources tell you to “do this” and “do that”, some of it quite extreme, but you seldom find out why this is supposed to be good for you. You’re told to have so many servings of this or that, but how big is a serve? You’re told to cut down on your salt intake, but how much do you really need? (Half a sausage, is the surprising answer. It contains enough salt to meet your daily needs.)
You’re told to use reduced-fat dairy, but not that it still contains half the calories and cholesterol of full-fat milk, without many of the crucial nutrients.
We can tell you our scientific training came in very handing trying to find the truth among all the wild claims some people make!
In ‘Mind What You Eat’, we’ve distilled the answers we found and wrote it in everyday language for people like ourselves. People with health problems or who are concerned about diet, but who are not nutritionists or health nuts. Just ordinary people wanting to be healthy and able to enjoy life more and hopefully live longer.
In our family, eating right has cured Natasha’s eczema. She no longer gets the frequent colds and knee pains that plagued her. Her behaviour, sleep and attention span have improved. Yana’s problems with blood pressure, digestion, headaches and dizziness are gone. And Ilya finds his concentration at work is much improved and asthma doesn’t affect him as badly as it used to.
Imagine how great life could be for you! Being able to eat tasty food that’s good for you, without worrying about it making you fat or sick. (It may be as simple as swapping a few food types for others of similar type.) Being able to enjoy life with a healthy, well-fed body ready to do the things you enjoy. Work hard. Play hard. Rest well. You can get yours now!
People who have seen early drafts of Mind What You Eat tried some of its recommendations and were amazed at the results they could achieve without any major sacrifices – just a few small adjustments to their diets.
What we’re suggesting in “Mind What You Eat” is not a miracle cure. (Though it may feel like a miracle after a few weeks, it’s certainly no overnight wonder.) There’s no magic potion that’s going to take away cancer or reverse osteoporosis. What we give you is simply good information and good sense.
We’ve based our information on credible sources such as research by the Wageningen University in Netherlands and the recommendations of the US, Australian and New Zealand government health departments.
Follow the suggestions in Mind What You Eat and you may have to wait a few weeks for the positive effects to come obvious.
But the moment will come when you realise just how much better you feel. Not to mention feeling better about yourself. You can start today – simply order Mind What You Eat!
“Mind What You Eat” consists of three parts.
Part 1 gives broad overview on the nutrition our body needs – water, energy, minerals, vitamins, gut bacteria and fibre. We describe the function and good sources of each, as well as the effect of shortages. It also contains references if you want to gain a more in-depth understanding of particular issues.
Part 2 points out the potentially harmful substances in everyday food. The sad fact is that some contamination is unavoidable in practice and even organic produce is not a perfect answer. We do give pointers about finding out where your food comes from and how it has been processed, with handy hints on how to avoid the worst substances.
Part 3 offers lots of practical advice, e.g.
